FA Cup final: Chelsea odds on to stroll it

Moments of pluckiness notwithstanding, Portsmouth have endured a terrible season with four separate owners unable to pull the club out of administration nor save it from relegation. No one is giving Pompey a chance on Saturday, trading as they are at 17.0 compared with Chelsea’s 1.2 on Betfair.

Will he be celebrating on Sat?

Best score line bet: Chelsea clean sheet @1.7 on Betfair

Best long odds bet: Florent Malouda to score first @5.5 on Bet365

We’d love to give Portsmouth the benefit of the doubt: they have some talented players – the majority of whom are playing their last game ever for the side – and a cracking manager, as well as a band of loyal fans.

But Chelsea are simply devastating. Carlo Ancelotti has succeeding in combining Mourinho’s nack for winning with a Wenger-like emphasis on flare in attack. The result is more goals than have ever been scored in a Premier League season.

You wouldn’t bet on Pompey turning off the tap on Saturday. They have the league’s fourth-worst goal difference this season with minus 32 – 13 goals worse than West Ham and bettered by everyone from Wolves upwards.

Chelsea were 1.12 to win at Wigan in the final game week of the season, partly because of their perceived desire to triumph over arch league rivals Manchester United. That’s slipped to 1.2 against Saturday’s opponents, perhaps reflecting the FA Cup’s propensity to stage upsets.

But Chelsea will want to win this game as much as they did the tie against Wigan. It would be the first time the team has ever achieved a league and cup double – becoming only the seventh team in history to achieve that accolade in the English game.

The smart money, therefore, is all on Chelsea; not if they will win but in what manner. To increase your returns, try a half-time/full-time bet of Chelsea/Chelsea or a scorer bet for any of Chelsea’s many attacking players.

Best bet: Chelsea to score in both halves @1.74 on Betfair
